Happy Holidays

Eats Hello fam! I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday and were able to not go to overboard on the food. I personally decided about 6 weeks ago that rather put my self in a position that I would feel horrible about eating something that I shouldn’t, I just made Christmas my cheat day. Now I don’t really subscribe to the whole cheat day thing because I believe that in order to make an life change you must do just that CHANGE. A cheat day only perpetuates the bad habits that you may have developed in my opinion, but I also feel that if your diet and work-out regimen are on point they why can a person have a slice of cake if they want it. I think you should be able to treat yourself from time to time. I personally even though I said this would be the day that I cheated could only do so much. I still drank water yesterday (I hadn’t drank anything other than water or green tea in months) and eat good portions. I did allow myself 2 pieces of blueberry, pineapple cream pie, two scoops of macaroniand cheese, and I put some bar-b-que sauce on my grilled chicken breast (we bar-b-queued for Christmas). That was basically all the cheating that I did. The funny thing is that once you really commit to your diet (life style change) and you know what is going in your body you wont want to eat like you use to trust me. Keep it going….. I holla

Splenda… The truth behind the Myth…

Ok heres a post that is dear to my heart…SPLENDA! When I was first introduced to Splenda I thought that it was a gift from God. I was amazed at the thought of being able to get all the benefits of a sweetner without the side effects of sugar and it is 0 calories as well; GREAT!.  Unfortunately for me I was WRONG. Splenda in many expert opinions (Mine too) is toxic and contains Chlorine (yes the stuff you put in the pool). Splenda it seems was discovered quite accidently. Splenda was actually intended to be a pesticide (Yikes… Yes a Bug Killer) before it was determined that it had a sweet taste. In fact the only reason it was consumed by a human is because a scientist said to another scientist that he should test the splenda and he heard “taste the splenda” and the rest is as they say history. Splenda is chemically very similar to the insecticide DDT and it has been proven that DDT can cause organ, genetic, and reproductive damage.  The main ingredient in Splenda other than Chlorine is called Sucralose.  Sucralose falls into the same category as Aspartame and the other harmful sweeteners out there… So STAY AWAY!!!! I be posting about better sweeteners that are natural in another post, until then………. I’ll Holla!!!

Computer vs. Pen & Paper

As I have mention previously I have been keeping track of the food I ingest using an electronic food diary(http://www.thedailyplate.com/). At first I like this because it calculated my calories for me and was really fun and easy to use.  I don’t always want to go to the computer every time I put something in my mouth and I don’t want to get out of the habit of tracking my food. I have decided to go back to the old paper and pen (sorry trees!). I noticed that when I keep a small notebook in my pocket I more readily write my foods down and don’t forget later on. I am also using the little book for other thing like jotting down ideas, notes, grocery list, etc.. If you haven’t already begun to monitor your calorie intake you should and you should start today. I have already begun to notice that I am naturally putting less food on my plate now that I know each thing will do in my body.

Hey Fat Boy……… I Mean Big Dog

Part of the motivation that I have for my weight loss has always been the name calling and not necessarily bad name calling. Today when I speak with people (My Homies) they might on ocasion refer to me as the big guy or as big dog. As a child (I have always been heavy) it was rough being the fat kid. Kids can be cruel with thier jokes, I think early on I developed a sort of defense mechanism that allowed me to poke fun at myself and others. These days as I lose more weight I am noticing that the Big guy comments are beginning to dissipate. So I’m happy about my progress and as always I’ll holla at ya.

Time to get started….. Check your Blood Pressure

I have been doing really well on my journey to my new level of fitness and health and I have been getting a lot of compliments. I’m between 238 and 235 depending on what time of the day I get on the scale. I must admit that I do enjoy the extra attention and assume it can only get better as I continue towards my goal. Now the reason I titled this post time to get started is because my buddy who is about 6 foot tall and roughly 330 pounds got sent home from work today because he was experiencing chest pains (scary). He went to the doctor and discovered he blood pressure was a whopping 165 over 90. After hearing about my buddy and knowing my own history (last year my Blood pressure was 140 over 90), I decide to get my BP checked out. I was pleasantly surprised to find that my BP is 126 over 78 (within normal ranges according to the BP chart http://www.disabled-world.com/artman/publish/bloodpressurechart.shtml) My buddy is in the second stage of high BP and he is only 33, I told him that maybe he should try what I’m doing because my health has already improved and I’m not anywhere near my goal. My doctor has told me that even a small reduction in weight 5 to 10 pounds can make a huge difference in blood pressure so get started today and feel better.

B12, B6……

I have been doing alot of reading about weight loss latley and I came across a few site that say that both B12 and B6 vitamins helps with weight loss.  According to the article B12 helps to improve energy levels and reduces water retention. B6 helps with weight loss by stimulating the thyroid. So I’m going to add B12 and B6 the the multi-vitamin that I already take. As all ways I’ll keep ya posted

Turkey and More

Hey peeps, wuz up! I haven’t been on in a while but I have still been following the plan with is to stay off of any processed foods and watching my calorie intake. I had to lay off of the honey I think I was causing myself to stall (but the smoothies were sweet!) yeah so I’m back on track. Still have not committed to exercise the way I think I should, right now I’m doing about 20 to 30 mins of exercise between 3 and 4 days a week.  Some days I do a little cardio follow by body weight exercise and other days I skip the cardio and do intense body weight exercises. I weighted in at 239 so my weight loss has slowed considerably but I still dropping about 1 to 2 pounds a week which is health and I feel great. Oh almost forgot I only had a Turkey leg and veggies for Thanksgiving (Thank you I stay focus) and I must admit it was easy. I think this current change in eating habits is breaking a lot of addictions that I had associated with food.

Well I’ll keep you posted

Holla @ Ya Boy!
